Rush’s Gift

April 23, 2008 · Print This Article

We know that Hillary doesn’t have the decency to thank Rush Limbaugh, we covered that after Texas.  The question now will be does McCain have the courage to acknowledge that he needs conservatives?  Many, including myself, have criticized Rush for not getting behind the only true conservative that was in the race.  Had he gotten out and gotten behind Fred Thompson in September then the democrats wouldn’t be fighting like this, Hillary would have probably already backed out because she would realize that the democrat nominee would have no chance against Thompson.

That aside Rush has had more influence on the democratic primary this year than he had on the republican primary.  That was of his choosing, I don’t like it but it’s in the past and we move forward.  If McCain squeaks out a win in November it won’t be because the great moderates in our country elected him, it won’t be crossover votes, it will be conservatives that still go to the polls and vote for the lesser of two evils.  Rush has created a situation where the regardless who wins the democratic nomination 20%-30% of their base will stay home.  This is brilliant, in some states you will have a situation where fewer people may turn out in the general election than they did in the primaries.

While I think Rush could have done more to get us a decent conservative as President his greatest gift may be accelerating the fragmented defeat of the democratic party for years to come.

the whole landscape would have been different…i’m still very disappointed in rush but you’re right…he still wields power…whether that’s a good thing for us as conservatives or not, we’ll have to see in november…
