Democrats trying to claim victory after snatching defeat

July 30, 2007

Judging from the MSM, the mouthpiece of the DNC, the last few days it appears that some good news is finally getting out of Iraq. This is the one thing they could least afford to have happen, success; oh no it can’t be…. Are the defeatocrats having to do a 180 on the war? Probably not, they’ll still claim that Bush was wrong to get into Iraq (Ignoring the fact that most of them voted for it.) and it was only through their pressure on the President that he changed to a winning strategy, ignoring again that they have done nothing but undermine it from the start.

It’ll funny to watch though, most Americans know the truth that we are doing good over there and that the democrats still can’t be trusted with national security. Another interesting note though, we knew we couldn’t trust them with national security before but now they have proven that they can’t be trusted to follow the constitution either. Time and time again now they have attempted to tie the Presidents hands on Iraq and in the end the people know that congress’ role is only to fund the war or to not fund the war.

I am starting to think that I will enjoy 2008.

Fred Thompson outraised all but Romney in 1st month

July 30, 2007

Ok I am a glass half full person so I am glad Fred Thompson raised $3 million in the first 26 days of his “testing the waters” phase. No other candidate raised that much in the first month except for Romney who also had to loan his campaign $850,000.00 during the testing the waters phase. The other item of note for Romney is that he had pre-arranged several high dollar fundraisers before he started so he could raise quick cash in hopes that he could jump out to a big $$ lead and hopefully limit the competition willing to get into the raise.

So I feel really good about this, Fred is out there talking to people and is now leading most major polls, he continues to win nearly every straw poll out there and he is spending NEXT TO NOTHING doing it. Would have liked to raise $6 million in the first month, sure but right now NOBODY is raising $6 million a month and the other candidates fundraising down altogether.

The last point I wish to make on this subject is this. Fred is raising enough money to prove that he needs to be in this raise. This is a race for the hearts and minds of the people, if the race boiled down to only dollars and sense then Romney would be leading hands down instead being a solid fourth in nearly every poll. If I was the Romney camp I would be asking myself why is it that I still run fourth in most of the national polls after McCain’s campaign has completely imploded?

Fred Thompson Supports the Fair Tax

July 29, 2007

On his trip to Houston this week Fred Thompson was asked if he were President and the house and senate approved the fair tax would he sign it, Thompson replied “absolutely”. This is good news for advocates of the fair tax; most voters agree that we need to overhaul the tax code. I will say that I haven’t’ studied their proposal in detail but removing all current taxation (federal) and replacing it with a consumption based tax seems logical. It actually addresses the thing that liberals claim they want which is the rich to pay their fair share. They don’t really because the rich don’t pay taxes in general because we currently tax income, not wealth. Most libs don’t understand the difference, the rich ones do, but most libs aren’t rich.

At any rate it is good to see that Fred supports an overhaul of the tax system, the other two top tier candidates (Rudy & Romney) support the status quo, or support raising taxes. Fred doesn’t seem afraid to go out there and answer questions and stake a position on something that is controversial. This is good, it doesn’t make him look like he needs to get a committee to tell him what to say like Rudy and Romney.

The Fred Thompson Campaign

July 28, 2007

A lot has been made this week about changes in campaign staff, this person being added or that person being fired, etc. Other than the DNC controlled MSM who really cares? I know there are several “Conservatives” out there bashing Fred for bringing in Spencer Abraham because supposedly he believes in open borders, and maybe he does, I don’t know and I don’t care because Spencer Abraham is not on the ballot Fred Thompson is.

Just because Fred brings someone into the campaign doesn’t mean he agrees with every position that person has ever taken, and it doesn’t mean that every campaign staffer agrees with every position that Fred has ever taken. Fred Thompson smokes cigars, I personally don’t like cigars, does that mean that I should support Mitt Romney because he doesn’t smoke cigars (I don’t know if he does or not it’s just a means of illustrating the point.) of course not. This is the type of garbage that the defeatocrats do.

A lot has also been made about Jeri pulling the strings and how bad that is. First these comments have been made by Washington insiders and people that make a living running around “handling candidates”. So I don’t put a lot of stock in the comments in the first place but let’s take it at face value, what’s wrong with Jeri having a prominent role in this campaign? She is a media consultant, she’s very well versed in politics and campaigns having worked at the RNC, she obviously has Fred’s best interests at heart, and who knows Fred and what he believes better than her?

We are not talking about the same old run of the mill campaign. Fred has told us that from the start, now that he is doing what he said he was going to do some conservatives don’t have the stomach for it? Let’s keep our eye on the ball and remember it is Fred who is (or soon will be) the candidate and it’s his beliefs and his views that we care about.

On Federalism

July 28, 2007

The term Federalism hasn’t been in the news much the last fifty years or so, at least not until recently where Fred Thompson has brought the term back to the news again.  Below I am re-posting Fred’s post on Federalism, I know it’s long but the words are very important.

The Framers drew their design for our Constitution from a basic understanding of human nature. From the wisdom of the ages and from fresh experience, they understood the better angels of our nature, and the less admirable qualities of human beings entrusted with power.

The Framers believed in free markets, rights of property and the rule of law, and they set these principles firmly in the Constitution. Above all, the Framers enshrined in our founding documents, and left to our care, the principle that rights come from our Creator and not from our government.

We developed institutions that allowed these principles to take root and flourish: a government of limited powers derived from, and assigned to, first the people, then the states, and finally the national government. A government strong enough to protect us and do its job competently, but modest and humane enough to let the people govern themselves. Centralized government is not the solution to all of our problems and – with too much power – such centralization has a way of compounding our problems. This was among the great insights of 1787, and it is just as vital in 2007.

Conservative Superiority Makeover

July 28, 2007

I needed to change the theme of this site, I was seeing the old one on too many other blogs, including a Mitt Romney site. Nothing against that site, they believe strongly in their candidate and nothing is wrong with that. Anyway I stumbled across this theme and liked it so Anna and I made a few minor little changes and here it is. Let me know what you think!
