Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. — Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.
Some of you might wonder why I begin tonight’s post with the first two paragraphs from the Declaration of Independence. The rest of being educated in the public schools of America probably didn’t even recognize it. I thought that given the current state of our government maybe it’s time we the governed revoke our consent!
I could think of no better way to do it than to use 231 year old words!

The sharp left turn at the Supreme Court

Nearly every media outlet in the country calls the Supreme Court’s decision in F.E.C. v Wisconsin Right to Life, Inc a victory for conservatives, a victory for free speech, etc. I couldn’t disagree more, this was a partial victory for the Wisconsin Right to Life but that’s about it. I am extremely disappointed in Chief Justice Roberts, and Justice Alito. The court had an opportunity to stand up for free speech and the court failed miserably.
Justice Scalia, Justice Thomas, and Justice Kennedy correctly believed that that the entire provision of the McCain-Feingold law should have been overturned. Scalia seems to believe that the freedom of speech portion of the First Amendment actually means…. Uh Freedom of Speech, go figure, where do these guys get this stuff… Scalia of course is right, and I applaud Justice Thomas, and Justice Kennedy for correctly seeing this law for what it is, an assault on free speech.
Justice Scalia had some very interesting words in the decision:
There is wondrous irony to be found in both the genesis and the consequences of BCRA. In the fact that the institutions it was designed to muzzle–unions and nearly all manner of corporations–for all the “corrosive and distorting effects” of their “immense aggregations of wealth,” were utterly impotent to prevent the passage of this legislation that forbids them to criticize candidates (including incumbents). In the fact that the effect of BCRA has been to concentrate more political power in the hands of the country’s wealthiest individuals and their so-called 527 organizations, unregulated by §203. (In the 2004 election cycle, a mere 24 individuals contributed an astounding total of $142 million to 527s. S. Weissman & R. Hassan, BCRA and the 527 Groups, in The Election After Reform 79, 92–96 (M. Malbin ed. 2006).) And in the fact that while these wealthy individuals dominate political discourse, it is this small, grass-roots organization of Wisconsin Right to Life that is muzzled.

Does Fred Thompson mean death to political correctness?

Having run a better non-campaign than the other ten that are running campaigns several things stand out about Fred Thompson. The first that jumps right out to most people is that Fred is not afraid to tell it like it is. If you took a poll I would bet that more people have seen or heard of Fred’s response to Michael Moore than could name five current Presidential candidates, total in both parties combined!
We have seen more examples of this too; Fred has spoken and written on immigration, congress, Harry Reid, etc. I love his piece on Harry Reid, the people are starving for someone that doesn’t subscribe to the liberal, can’t we all just get along, except when they criticize republicans. That’s different of course. In a broader sense though it’s time we had a conservative president that is not afraid to remind congress of their limited role in government. Over the last fifty plus years we have seen both the Judicial and Legislative branches of government assert authority reserved for the executive branch.

Patterson correctly points out that the planet has constantly changed and over the many thousands of years man has played no part in it
Climate stability has never been a feature of planet Earth. The only constant about climate is change; it changes continually and, at times, quite rapidly. Many times in the past, temperatures were far higher than today, and occasionally, temperatures were colder. As recently as 6,000 years ago, it was about 3C warmer than now. Ten thousand years ago, while the world was coming out of the thou-sand-year-long “Younger Dryas” cold episode, temperatures rose as much as 6C in a decade — 100 times faster than the past century’s 0.6C warming that has so upset environmentalists.
